Most of the personal pages on the web see the good mixed with the bad, the ugly and the downright horrendous! The best way to criticise another man's work is to do your's better. That I'll fail miserably to do!

Anyway, welcome to my webpage. This is a website without a purpose! Some of the pages on this site may be updated regularly, more may be updated at random without notice and more will join the gigabytes of outdated junk on the information superhighway.

Ok in the world where bebo and facebook are taking over is there any point to updating this. Probably not but sure I'll do it anyway! Just uploaded a bunch of photos predominantly from Argentina and Brasil from late last year and early this year. Got a few more to stick up from recent photos but I am getting a bit lazy.

I've also stuck up a few videos on my youtube account and you can access them from the My Videos section of this page.

Ok as usual all feedback/lacerations welcome!

I am a software engineer. I am currently working for Accendo Technologies for quite some time now. I have been working on the QExplorer product and on working on contract to Tecnomen working on their Prepaid Products. Before this I was working for Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace part of the Kongsberg Gruppen in (you guessed it) Kongsberg in Norway! I work on the NSM Anti Ship Missile. Before that I was working for Tellabs in Shannon Co. Clare Ireland, that is before they decided to "restructure" and pulled all development and manufacturing out of Ireland with the loss of hundreds of jobs! Yeah as you can probably tell that's a sore point.

Linux

Well as the picture of Tux the official mascot of Linux to the left suggests, I use superb operating system. I use Linux by choice at home and at work when I am allowed - assuming I have a job! My favourite Linux distribution is Debian. The reason I find this distribution far superior to any of the rest is the strict policies that they have set forth for the packages in this distro. Also the Debian packages are built by the Debian developers not by some company like Redhat. Of course all the code is open source. The Debian policy insists that all programs must come with some sort of documentation, which can be terribly minimal but still it exists and a man page. All programs are installed into the /usr directory, which I really like because it helps to keep my system clean and I know where everything is. Finally, and more importantly, is the ease of upgrade. I use "sid" which is the unstable release, but I can update my system very quickly, or rather I could when I had a broadband connection, getting the latest packages of all programs.

Here is webpage that I keep for myself on how I configured my Debian box in case of some catastrophe or if I decide to do some work when I'm drunk and do some serious damage to my system. This is not meant as a tutorial; for full documentation consult the man pages or the linux HOWTO's.

From time to time I get bored with my desktop backgrounds and when there is nothing good on WindowMaker Themes I am left with no option but to throw one together on me tad. WindowMaker is my window manager of choice for the past 4 years approx. I usually "borrow" some image I find somewhere on the web and let that suffice for some time. Digital Blasphemy. I have a webpage with a few of these themes which will hopefully grow over time here

I decided to embarass the lads from Dingle by naming and shaming them on my profiles page. Dingle is a really cool town, although it's become wicked expensive over the last few years. However this town claims to have 52 licensed premises and I think the population is about 2 thousand. I still have not been able to account for each of these premises but it sure as hell is a drinking town. Here is a link to the official Kerry GAA website.

I like to travel somewhat and see a bit of the world. When I was younger we travelled once a year to somewhere in Europe and since those days I have developed somewhat of an itchy feet syndrome. Of course during school and university I couldn't get around too much or at all to be more specific, due to funds or lack of them. However since I finished univesity I have managed to get around a bit, more than some, less than more. I have kept a brief enough travelog of the more recent of these trips. It's a small bit of a diary but of course has the most intersting stories, which really are the ones that should be printed, excluded! However if you are interested you can have a browse through it here. There is also a photogallery which contains photos of some of these trips on the photogallery page here

Now I guess it's about time I stopped ranting and raving on about nothing. I wonder how many people actually read this sort of junk! Anyway if you want to tell me what a load of junk you have just read, and what a pathetic misbegotten you are for reading it, you can drop me a mail at ronan@ronanos.com There is also the option of making your opinions public by signing the Guestbook
